This isn't meant as a statement against this particular name. It's just something that struck me as odd. I know a couple of women named Stephanie who are my age or a little older (early 30s). It's a fine name for a younger person, but I can't imagine nursing homes and assisted living centers full of people named Stephanie. Perhaps that's because I'm not yet in one myself.

Wait till they're full of Ashley's and Briana's and Kaitlins.

Ah, you see in Britain we have Stephanie Beacham, an actress who has aged into her career quite nicely http://simplystephaniebeacham.com/
and Stephanie Cole - who has spent whole career playing (very well) ladies of a certain age (and beyond!)http://www.answers.com/topic/stephanie-cole
so a nation of ageing Stephanies doesn't faze me.
But Kylies, Jades and other popular names.....yeucch!

I don't know that we have any older and equally prominent Stephanies on this side of the ocean. I recognized Stephanie Cole from 'Waiting for God'.
Hmm... Ashley, Ashlee, Ashleigh, Madison, Mikayla... Of course, the Madison of today is the Bertha of tomorrow. Makes me wonder what names will be next.
The Social Security Administration lists these top 10 for the US in 2005:
Emily
Emma
Madison
Abigail
Olivia
Isabella
Hannah
Samantha
Ava
Ashley

Hannah was listed as the most popular name among the poor and uneducated in some article I read about months ago.
A good friend of mine has a baby named Hannah... I didn't bother telling him about that.

Emily was also the top name 10 years ago. Hannah and Ashley were in the top 10 too.

I won't tell my brother either about Hannah.
Some of the names stay popular for a long time. Boys names especially. Jacob has been on the list for ages.

Emee - Hart to Hart - how could you forget Stephanie Powers????!!! As for Waiting for God - I still aspire to be that cranky!!
THe good old "biblical" names seem to hold on (have a soft spot for the name "Hannah"...oops!)but pop & sport "stars" seem to be having an influence - thankfully the Beckhams continued breeding seems to have had little effect on the naming of the next generation!
Key: Complain about this post
