I'm giving very serious thought to moving my serious writing to H2G2. So far I've been writing around Archaeoastronomy on Wikipedia. It's slow and because it's a topic that attracts certain interests, it has to be written in a certain way to show verifiability. On top of that the references have to be justified and so on...

The attraction of writing here is that it seems much more relaxed. The entries in the edited guide are helpful but are honest about being guide material rather than the last word on the subject. If someone offended because I haven't mentioned their favourite conspiracy theory then the nature of the Guide is that they can write their own entry.

The only downside I can see is that Wikipedia does have people who enjoy pointing out spelling mistakes and errors in grammar. That's useful. It's nice to come back to an entry and see someone's improved it. I know there's collaborative writing here, but if I understand correctly I need to authorise people first. It's a nuisance, especially when I don't know who is sound. That's the price of protection which prevents random lunatics writing over your work with inane ramblings.

The fact I keep copyright on what I write - that's a bonus.

It might not be as well read as Wikipedia, but I don't honestly think I'll care if it's more fun.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
