mrs the wife

OK, she finally did it, she reached for the phone, dialled 999 and got the emergency operator. I returned to the living room to find her cross legged, smiling and speaking animatedly into the receiver. I raced across, looked at the display and realised what she had done. They were very nice about it, and once I had confirmed I did not need an ambulance, fire engine or police car (and apologised profusely) we said our goodbyes.

I'd love to have seen the expression on the operators face though, and heard her end of the conversation!

pre-divorce my brother was responsible for the collective off-spring of his (then) mrs...6 in all - 2 of them his...from 16 years old down to about 2/3years (long story) anyway...

...a phone bill arrived at which he went ballistic due to the number of calls to the speaking clock...suffice to say the kids were all lined-up and (in no uncertain terms) bollocked...when no-one owned up they were all grounded (except of course the youngest who was obviously not in the frame)...

...so he's putting the little-one down for the night in her cot and he's gently telling her it's bed-time....you know (adopts baby voice) "bed-time little one...bed-time" at which she murmers in her sleep "bed-time...at the first stroke will be 6.31 precisely..beep...beep..beep...beeeeep".

at least you didn't have to pay for babydogmonkey's 'phone addiction....
