h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Needless to say I'm the geezer with a Maltese wife and I've given up trying to find out what the cart-ruts are and will dedicate myself to football. Not that I haven't already, being a Lions supporter(I'm not talking Naxxer here). So why go to watch a crap team lose? What choice do you have when both parents( Now gone to the great Den in the sky)supported before they even met. This doesn't stop me going to Ta'Qali when I'm in Malta, especially when(ANY)Maltese side are playing foreigners.Just remember it doesn't matter who wins just as long as you let the others know what you think of them. This is my complaint, the Maltese who speak in loud volumes about the price of fish are unsuitably quiet at football. There doesn't seem to be any passion at all and crowds are small. If you don't fight back against the money men they will take your soul; it can be done, look at the old enemy, Turkey.

As for the cart ruts I'm afraid that I can't help you out, I can however state that that they aren't makeshift runaway markings for alien spaceships!

Yes I also visit Ta Qali whenever foreign opposition come (both international and club level)...it's the 'us against them' symdrome I guess, it is something about patriotism, something deep, something intangible though.

As you say, the Maltese, who are so vocal about so many pointless things, are so damned quiet when it comes to watching football! Go figure! I feel that it is due to some sort of inferiority complex that has been around since colonial times, where the average Malteser was taught to respect those people from foreign lands...strange that...if you go to a local derby match the atmosphere can match anywhere, accept the glorious Highfield Road! (yes I'm Sky Blue)
