Make sure your existing file is in text mode, eg made with Notepad. If you try to copy and paste from anything with silly formatting, such as Word, you'll regret it.

If by "an entry" you mean a journal entry or thread post, then you are limited to just text. If you mean an h2g2 article entry, then you can have HTML/Guide-ML formatting commands in your text but it's better to prepare the article page as a relativly blank one first. Create it on h2g2, switch it over to being Guide-ML if you want the formatting (which will add the special start and end codes that you *must* leave alone) and copy-paste your text from your (plain text) file into the h2g2 edit box.

I refuse to take off my foil helmet just to read someone else's mind - the gubbinment will start beaming signals into my brane if I'm not wearing it. You'll have to give us some more details of what you want to do.

I had imagined it would be possible to import a titled file by its title but I take it from your reply, for which many thanks, that there is no way of avoiding the more cumbersome copy and paste routine. Evidently I have still much to learn, but it seems the simplest solutions are best for now. Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply but I have now learned that I shouldn't have expected to import a file by its title, but adopted the simple copy and paste method, but I'm learning

SEF, I'm no html expert, but is it possible in h2g2 to use constructs like include to pull in data from other sources? Just thinking aloud.

Most of that sort of HTML is blocked in GuideML (and the page generation software) - for obvious reasons. There *are* some loopholes but ...

... but nothing that would interest you, sonny.

Thanks SEF - that's what I thought.

smiley - cheers Icy
