hi smiley - smiley

i have deleted conversation threads and journal entries but i cannot find a way to delete messages.
I know it is possible because i have seen others do it.

I have seen references to how to get to a page that lists all your messages with the x's to the left of them but i cannot find those threads where that was described. could you perhaps please tell me how to get to that page? when i click see more messages i do not get the little x's to the left of the listings.

i deleted my journal entries by using 'unsubscribejournal' in this kind of string...

www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F7334496?thread=4453243&cmd=unsubscribethread&page=normal&desc=Return+to+your+Personal+Space&return=U8401460

...and i am wondering if there perhaps is a word for messages? like unsubscribemessages?

i would very much appreciate the information on how to do this....
the sooner i finish up here the sooner i can get on with closure smiley - smiley

thanks

smiley - erm when i go to the bottom of a conversation thread, yes it says 'click here to unsubscribe to this conversation'
but.... when i go to the bottom of a message thread it says 'click here to subscribe to this conversation'

if it is already in my messages i am subscribed,,, it seems to me

whats more... we don't have any control over what messages wind up there in our space...
everything else in our personal space we put in, and everything else we can get rid of....
but anyone can post a message...
why can't we have control over this part of our personal space like we do the rest of it?

if it doesn't break house rules moderation will not remove it. i know. i tried to get something else removed once.
so if we want to get rid of a message... albeit all of them are unsolicited but some are not wanted...
how do we do that?

thanks smiley - smiley

The short answer is that you don't.

Initially there were technical reasons why no message would ever be deleted. The most that would be achieved would be for the content to be replaced with a message that the original content had been hidden because it broke house rules (assuming that it did break house rules of course.)

From this position there has grown a culture that what ever is written in a message stays for all time, and that one has to stand by what one has written typos and all.

The one exception to this is if someone starts a thread on your page that you believe is against house rules and there is precisely one message in the thread. Then if you complain about the message using the appropriate button and your complaint is upheld, then the thread and it's solitary message will disappear. If however there is more than one post in the thread then the best that you'll get is the content removed and the title changed to (I think) .

In the old days that was a very good reason for not having a PS page at all - ie people *couldn't* leave you messages. However, after that the software was changed so that people were automatically given a PS page on registration onto which messages could be posted even if the page still had no contents and didn't look as though it existed.

Gnomon - time to move on

Not only can you not delete messages, but you can't even delete conversations or journal entries. Although you can unsubscribe from them so they don't appear on your page, they are still there for other people to see.
