Re-cycling

1 Conversation

We have on the outskirts of our town a dump. The local council call it a community re-cycling site.
A lot of emphasis is placed on the recycling of garden waste. Myself and many others take our garden waste (Lawn cutting, prunings etc) Glowing with pride we empty our waste in specially provided skips which are taken away and the contents turned into compost. Very commendable I can hear you saying.
However myself and 99.9% of everybody else arrives by car. My round trip is about 4 miles. I have to cross the busiest road in our town. Apart from the fact I help clog up the roads I burn up petrol and pollute the atmosphere.
Yes I compost but you cannot compost everything.
This community centre is the busiest area in town. It positively thrives. God knows how much petrol the town's people burn getting there.
I remember the days (sad old git) when the dustmen used to collect EVERYTHING Surely it most be better for the environment if we had another 2 or 3 dustcarts that took all our rubbish and charged us another 25p a week on the coouncil tax to pay for them.
Furthermore I am not convinced suitable land fill sites are running out but that is another subject.
At least I don't have to tip the dustmen at Christmas for taking only a part of my rubbish.
