Routemaster Buses

1 Conversation

Double-decker public transport, popular in London since first produced in 1950's.
Metaphor for British debate about the European Union (EU). Routemaster buses do not have a door, just an opening so passengers have the freesom to jump on and fall off.
The EU does not believe that the British should be allowed to throw themselves off buses into the path of oncoming traffic because it is is messy and inefficient, and this won't help the Euro (European currency).
The British like old buses, the 50's (things were better when everything was rationed after the war) and anything else that they still use but that the rest of the world has abandoned (eg, public service broadcasting, right hand drive cars), and fervently believe in their right to cause major traffic congestion, and will go as far as writing letters to The Daily Mail in order to protect that right.
