Here I Sit

sitting here once
again
staring off who knows where
I know not what time it is
again

to be happy or sad be

faceless you send me
morsels
tidbits for my nourishment
are we happy to be so
alive

... the embers of melancholy
ignite again
take care
your soul is unsinged ...

My own opinion, after reading ethnic 'booster' pieces, is that we need to constantly evolve a better, more composite culture as we meet each other and learn to live with each other. To either blindly and stubbornly adhere to everything that existed in the society where we come from or to willy nilly put on, even be forced into, the cultural 'clothes' of where we are now - without making, requesting or obtaining any adjustment - does not serve either the 'new' individual or the new group that the individual joins; both the group and the individual are better served, in my view, if, as a result of our interaction, we accept that we can evolve to become something unprecedented, unique, even wonderful. If each refuses to learn from and adapt to the other, a clash must ensue, one that will still change all involved, perhaps negatively. In an uncertain world the only certainity is change; I suggest it behoves us to expect and accept.
