Tibbets Corner History-Wimbledon

1 Conversation

Tibbets corner has been famed for the hanging Gerry Abershaw but was in fact where the gibbet (used to hang the dead bodies of criminals) he was placed on resided. Tibbets corner is also said to have been a burial ground dating back to the fourth century, although it may just be an overspill of the burial mounds along the A3. Tibbets corner got it's name from a local lodge keeper called Tibbet.
