Ishmael by Daniel Quinn is a novel I had to read for Sociology in college. It is one of the few books out there that can genuinely change the way you look at the world and how society got to it's current state. It deals with such heavy subject matter but is written in an easy to read way.
Between the Bridge and the River by Craig Ferguson is wonderful! It has moments of whimsy and moments of tragedy. Absolutely brilliant! A fun read that also deals with what it means to be human why we are here.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
