Best book ever? Top ten at least, and you don't expect it which is the part I love.
Orson Scott Card part two in the Ender series: Speaker for the Dead

Amazing books! But they change dramatically from Enders game into the rest of the series.

Amazing,I agree...
Thats because Ender's game was only met to set the stage for Speaker, so you'd know what was going on. but while OC was writing it it became a lot mroe than that. and its about kids. in space.

OooH! Oooh! I love Ender's Game! I was surprised at how much more difficult Speaker was to read than Ender's Game. But right now I'm in the middle of Xenocide and am very much enoying it I'm astounded at how much I can't stop reading them despite how terrifyingly lengthy they are I never get tired of them! YAY!

Xenocide and Children of the mind are basically two books split in two. But I think they're a lot different. Children of the mind has so much far fetched crazystuff in it, that it sort of loses the seriousness of Speaker and xenocide. It really isn't nearly as good. OC, I think, really wanted to just right fantasy all along, because thats kinda what Children became.
However, the first book in the Tales of alvin Maker series was pretty good. and it is fantasy. hmm...

What's fantasy-ish about it? What makes it different from the other books in the series? (Children of the Mind, that is.)

I don't know, it just seems like fantasy by that book.
It gets really wacky, I don't think that book is as good, myself.
maybe not fantasy, but still fantastical<?><?>

all that stuff about aiuas and Jane going through poeple and stuff.
I personally think the whole thing would be a bit better without the Chinese, Qing Jao and such thingy... it just completely changes the attitude of it, somehow.
Also, Peter and VAlentine, I didn't like that when the copies appeared

I think we mustnt forget he is a deeply religous person. I am not, but his stories are fantastic. I did not like 'Children' as much but I like the fact he seems to write true to himself.
In the Shadow series he goes back to Ender's game style writing which he also must enjoy.
I didnt like the Alvin books much, maybe because they are based on American history? I dont know.
Speaker is my favourite read. All times. In fact I have bought the book 4 times for myself to keep but keep giving it away to people.
