A Conversation for Left-handers
I'm just confused
Bruce Posted Jul 23, 1999
I write with my left hand & do everything else righthanded. When I was at school they attempted to make me use my right hand for writting but I beat them - I went out & smashed my right wrist & spent 3 months with it in plaster - so it was either no written work for Bruce or use the left hand - at the time I was disappointed that they let me use my left hand.
The unusual writting position of most left handers is , I think, so that they can see what they have written & not get lost.
I knew a right hander who lost his right arm in adult life & was forced to write with his left. Strangely, he good spell just fine orally but spelling went down the tubes when he had to write.

I'm not just confused... I'm overweight.

A left-hand thread. Brava, madam!
Hello fellow lefties.
Just a thought:
Consider Nelson's Column a monument to our kind. After all, look at what the great man had to go through in order to join us.

I honestly can't think of anything other than writing that I do with my left hand by preference. There are some things that I am ambidextrous at, as need arises.
Hey, maybe I can use this as an excuse for my atrociuos spelling/typing in forum posts.

PS I wonder if there's any chance of convincing the PTB to make this forum left handed (graphics & listings swapped over)????

I am a lefty, but right eyed, left eared, right footed.
Jean Claude Van Dame (did i spell that right?) is lefthanded and righteyed, unless they swap the image around like they do on many movies where "stuff ups" have been detected.
We can solve all this problems by simply altering our genetics so we have a third arm sticking out of our cheast with two thumbs. Problem solved and we have a "tail" infront of us.
Has any of you lefties think that they is a conspiracy against us? We were born into a right handed world, and forced to adapt. Even though history shows us that surprisingly a large number of "great" people are left handed. .

You said it, sister!
There may be a conspiracy; but, when us old folks was little, it was outright persecution.
Regarding your thoughts on tails: may I direct your attention to "Tails - revisited"

Oops! The latter I direct to comrade Milmot.

Left-handers are more adaptable because they HAVE to be more adaptable. It is a dextrally dominated world after all. What I find interesting is that Neolithic flint tools show an equal right-left bias (apparently you can tell by the way the flint is knapped), so what changed? Why did dextrals become dominant?
Having said that, being left-handed has its advantages, as we can surprise people by using our left hand when they automatically assume the right. If you are truly ambidextrous then the world is your oyster. Oh, apparently polar bears are all left-handed, though I've never asked one.

A recent dinner at a Vietnamese restaraunt reminded me that I also use chopsticks lefthanded. But I think this is just due to the fact that the quasi swordfights with the righhander to my left are always such fun.

Left-handed archers

There are no left-handed archers. They are called Linx-archers, and are generally the one's you find on top of the medal podium at world championships being admired by the rest. And the same goes for the national champions of most of the worlds nations. I'm not a linx archer myself, but I wish I was, because somehow they just shoot better.

Does a linx-archer draw a bow with his left or right hand?

A linx archer holds the bow in the right hand and draws with the left.

Thanks for the update. That's the way I do it... on the rare occasions I draw a bow at all. In support of the Linx-archer hypothesis, I'm proud to say that I have always been able to hold my own, and often outshoot, right-handed archers who are equally ignorant of correct technique.

I tried archery at university, but no-one told me about this. As I am also left-eyed, I found shooting right-handed very difficult, so gave up. Now I know better! Presumably you have to change the sights, hand grip, stabilisers and maybe even the arrows? Still it's worth a go.
I fire a shotgun left-handed with reasonable success, just don't use an auto-eject gun, or you get spent cartridges in the face which a) hurts, b) smells and c) knocks your specs off!

Hi John,
Nope, it's the same sights, the same stabilizers, the same arrows, the only thing different is the raiser which holds the arrow window the other way. Every good dealer has linx bows in his supply, and every brand of bow comes in both linx and righthanded. So get to it.
Enjoy.
