Screech

A form of rum native to the province of Newfoundland, Canada. Screech is reknowned for its curative powers: it puts an end to afflictions such as coherent speech, vision, rational decision making, fear of putting one's head in a toilet bowl, and any attraction one may hold for members of the opposite sex.
Screech is also central in the Newfoundland tradition of being "Screeched In", a curious ritual involving drinking a quantity of Screech, kissing the arse/mouth of a dead cod or carved puffin (a local bird, another oddity for another entry), and reciting gibberish beginning with the phrase "I am me old cock..." The result of said ritual is that one has had a drink of Screech, kissed the arse/mouth of a cod/puffin, and recited gibberish.
