A word: indescribable

1 Conversation

The word indescribable. An interesting paradox. First let's break the word apart. in-describe-able. First the base word, describe, to tell or depict in words; give an acount, this is according to the 1995 edition of Webster's dictionary. next, the suffix able, meaning (duh) able to. So describable would mean able to describe. And finally, the prefix in, meaning, the opposite of, put then all together, indescribable, unable to describe. Which brings us to the point of this whole longwinded article. It is an adjective, which means you use it to describe something. This word contradicts itself. If you use it you are describing something. Therefore nothing is indescribable just because this word exists.
