Flames? Here in Peer Review? Perish the thought, we're all very friendly here Well, things do get a little out of hand on *very* rare occasions
Welcome to the lion's den that is PR That's a pretty good entry for a first timer hackeylacky, and it would be a contender for the Edited Guide if (as I suspect) you hadn't made a very common error which even those of us who've been around the block a time or too still make every now and then.
Before embarking on a new entry it's always a good idea find out if there's already an edited entry on the subject matter of the entry you're submitting. You can do this by clicking on the link 'Avanced Search' which you'll find on just about every h2g2 page. You'll find yourself at a page with several search options - you'll need to use 'Search the Guide'. Check the two boxes which say 'Edited Entries' and 'Recommended Entries', uncheck the box which says Guide Entries', enter the title of the entry you're submitting, and hit 'Search the Guide'.
If there is already an edited entry on the subject, then there can't be another, and sadly in this case there is... sort of. There are two edited entried about different aspects of lying - here A664021 and here A180839.
I think though that you might have a case to include some of your material into the latter of those two - it is possible to update existing entries, although this isn't carried out by h2g2 staff, it's done on a voluntary basis by Jimi X U53353 and can be a rather long-winded process as Jimi and various other Sub-editors are doing it all in their spare time. Update HQ is here A496451
One other thing I should point out is that you have a couple of first person references in your entry. The editors prefer all edited entries to be written entirely in third person unless writing about a personal experience, in which case it should be included as a quote. Have you read these two pages yet: Writing-Beginners and Writing-Guidelines? They'll give you wads of information to help you write stunning entries for The Guide This one is very useful too Subeditors-Style
On the other hand, I might be talking a load of old , and your entry is perfectly suitable for the Edited Guide. What does everyone else think about this one?

Thanks so much for replying so quickly gosho, and also thanks for the info on the begginners writing pages. To tell you the truth I did'nt know there was a difference between posted guide entries and edited guide entries. This was sort of a spur of the moment thing and I figured I should just jump in with both feet.thanks for the input

Take heart, hackeylackey. Even if there is an entry on it already, your entry will still form part of the guide and will be found by anyone searching on 'lying'.
To submit an entry for editing, providing it meets the Writing-Guidelines and there hasn't been an entry on it before, submit it to Peer Review. If it is fiction, submit it to the Alternative Writing Worshop or AGG.
Ask for help as and when you need it. People are always happy to give it.

Quite so The edited section of The Guide is meant to be like an encyclopaedia - full of facts and information.
If you have any stories to submit, you can try either the Alternative Writing Workshop Writing-Alternative (which is one of the options in the dropdown menu when you submit an entry) or <./>ThePost</.>

Thanks for all the help gosho, i really appreciate it and ive been looking over the two entries you sent me. If it would take to long to add them into another entry then I may think about submitting it to be edited on the basis that nobody has actually bothered to type up rules to lie properly. What do you think? Any feedback at all would be nice

Hmmm...
Well, you've already submitted it to Peer Review, and that's as far as you can go along the road of attempting to get an entry edited. Once it's here it's at the mercy of your peers, which is why it's called Peer Review, obviously Submitting it again without any changes would get the same response as the first time.
There are many other researchers who spend time here at PR, and I'd wait to see what they have to say - so far you've only had opinions from two of us. Ultimately though, it's down to a Scout to decide that in their opinion an entry is recommendable, and for the Editors to then accept or reject that recommendation. The Eds are the final arbiters.
If you find that you're getting no response here, it's ok to post a little *nudge* once in a while to bring your thread to the top of the PR pile again and back onto the 'More Conversations' page of everyone subscribed to the PR forum. Don't do that more than once or twice a week though - we're all volunteers and we have a lot of entries to work through each day when can find the time

I've not checked out the edited entry on lying yet, so you may well be right in that your entry is more accurate.
If that is the case, there is an 'update route' for entries. I have to admit that I can't remember what it is at present. I might look when I get back home from work (just off).
Maybe one of the other scouts can tell you before I do.

ok then
Rhu..., the usual procedure (well, sometimes, that is) is that whoever gets a seconding to their proposal, posts it to the eGroup

*cough* Message 8493 ... and, after posting to the group, it's usual for the Italics to move the entry out of the review forum, isn't it?
