Built to Last

Here's some old bricks going by the name of 'De Moriaan '. This red brick house at one corner of the 's-Hertogenbosch market square is claimed to be one of the oldest remaining brick buildings in The Netherlands. It was built in the thirteenth century by Duke Hendrik the first, for a friend. It has had a load of functions, such as a meeting place for Protestants in the iconoclast period, a small theatre, a shop and storage space. Plans to demolish it in 1956 were met with enough protest to preserve this landmark building.
A 13th-century brick house.
