Feeding the Mockford Vultures

Willem is a wildlife artist based in South Africa. He says "My aim is simply to express the beauty and wonder that is in Nature, and to heighten people's appreciation of plants, animals and the wilderness. Not everything I paint is African! Though I've never been there, I'm also fascinated by Asia and I've done paintings of Asian rhinos and birds as well. I may in future do some of European, Australian and American species too. I'm fascinated by wild things from all over the world! I mainly paint in watercolours. . . but actually many media including 'digital' paintings with the computer!"

This is one panoramic photo and then three different sections of it to show the details. This was at the Mockford Farm, where they have a feeding area for vultures. We were there on a cold winter's morning. We were lucky to see four different vulture species: Cape, White-backed, Hooded, and Lappet-Faced. They were joined by Marabou Storks, Pied Crows and a few jackals. All the vultures are currently critically endangered, so it's amazing to see so many all in one place. They come soaring in from breeding and roosting sites hundreds of miles away!

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
