Papillon

Papillon is the French word for butterfly. It is also the name of a book written by Henri Charriere about his life and escapes from the penal colonies of French Guiana. He made several escapes, once getting to Colombia before being caught and sent back. Eventually he escaped again and went to Guyana before moving onto Venezula and then generally moving around the Caribbean for a while. It was made into a film with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman but the book is better.
