Relatives with ESAs: How to Welcome Guests with ESAs for Christmas?
Created | Updated Dec 24, 2019
Having a relative with an emotional support animal? Thinking about how to invite them over for Christmas holidays? Usually, people having special needs get ESAs and for them, travelling without their companions is hard.
If you are thinking about how to invite your ESA owner relative, then the following ways will help you do it easily.
Ask them about their Plan
Ask them if they will be coming with their ESA. asking ahead will help you do some preparations beforehand and make their visit both comfortable and memorable. Besides, animals need specific preparations and knowing their plan will be helpful for you.
Receive them Personally
Travelling with an ESA is a lot of work. Packing the extra luggage for the ESA and making sure that they have kept their ESA letter and other documents needs planning and diligence. Offer to pick them from the airport or the train station. Help them with their bags and other luggage; this will ease their anxiety and allow them to relax.
Make a List of all the Required Amenities
In case your relative is coming from another town, make a list of all the nearby pet stores, dog and cat groomers and spa, pet superstore and veterinarians. Coming from another town means that they do not know anything about your town and since they are travelling with an ESA, they may need all these details.
See if all the Guests are OK with It
If you are also going to have other guests around then it is better that you ask them with they are fine with living with an animal. Now, an ESA could be anything and you must make sure that all of the guests are comfortable living with it. In case someone has animal allergies, you will still have time to make alternate arrangements.
Ask if the ESA will be OK with other People
Ask your loved one if their ESA will be comfortable living in a house full of people. Dogs usually have no problems with it and they love to have more people around. Ask if their ESA is good with kids or shy around other people. In any such case, it is better to make alternate arrangements for them.
Scritize your House for any Dangerous Items
Unless you already have a pet or an ESA yourself, houses usually have things that are not suitable for animals like cats and dogs. Check your entire house to see and remove anything that could be dangerous for your relative’s animal. This includes Christmas decorations and your pretty rugs and items that you do not want to get damaged by the ESA.
Stick up your House with Special Animal Treats
Treat the coming ESA as your guest and go the extra mile to provide comfy things and treats for it. Get special dog or cat treats and, if possible, a special bedding to make your relative and his ESA feel special.
Be Mindful and Respectful of your Relative’s Needs
People having free emotional support animal letter often deal with a lot of other things and this is why you must make sure that you make their visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Create a good, friendly and accepting environment for everyone so that everyone could spend the time together.
Christmas is a great way of meeting your relatives and sharing a bond with them. Make sure that you do not leave your relatives with ESAs behind.
