I'm afraid I've never tried it, and was completely going by the Guide Entry. The things that writers get away with...

It is a good Entry that Marmite one - I agree it is important to introduce the Marmite gradually to find the right balance for personal taste 
My mum mocks me a bit for spreading it so thinly, but she doesn't like Marmite because she once ate it 'with the dinosaurs at the bottom'! She prefers Bovril A87784302 which isn't quite so intense-flavoured
