Superfrenchie

La Fin du Monde a du Retard (the end of the world is running late), by J.M. Erre.

Julius is in a psychiatric hospital due to amnesia.
The girl in the room opposite his is also an amnesiac.
Her name is Alice and she's pretty.

Alice is the sole survivor of the explosion that destroyed the venue where she was getting married, while she was getting married.
Julius had just uncovered The World Conspiracy. He is now writing a blog about it. He doesn't remember much, except that someone called Tiresias is pulling the strings of *something*.

She wants to go home. He wants to find proof and make it public.
They escape from the hospital together.

The police are after her, since the explosion hasn't been ruled out to be foul play.
Some hitmen-type guys are after him.

Will they find out who is behind the conspiracy, and *what* the conspiracy is ?

*suspenseful music*

Ok. This is a bit of a ULO, an unidentified literary object. There are hints of a thriller or action novel, but it's really a comedy.

There's the party at the hospital, with food prepared by the psychiatric patients (crips quiche, anyone?) and the has-been rocker so-called lookalike.
There's the guy who helps them escape while coming back from a scifi convention (who wouldn't want a ride in a tiny car that's been disguised as a UFO?).
There's the suicidal pigeon that seems to follow our heroes everywhere.

True story : I started reading it at the gym, but had to stop because my laughing fits were disturbing the others...

As far as I know, this has not been translated.
There are also a lot of puns, so could be a difficult read for non native French speakers.

It is.
I have another one of his books, but haven't got round to reading it yet.
