Freebie Film Tip #9: Space Cadets and Monkey Business

A chimp in a human setting.

Today's tip is actually funny on purpose – and the timing's good. Yes, children, there was really a show called Tom Corbett, Space Cadet. This episode, called 'Monster of Space', doesn't have any monsters in it. It's got Mugs the Chimp instead. I think you'll get a chuckle out of it.

Eat your heart out, Starfleet Academy. While you got stuck with Wesley Crusher, the Space Cadets got TJ. We bet he's better company. Yes, the sets are just as cheesy as always, but the comic timing is spot-on. Watch the way they do take-off: 'Three…two…one…zero…(make really funny face while throwing yourself back in the chair)…'

Special kudos go to Mugs the Chimp, who runs rings around the whole astronaut corps. Think about it: this was 1955, a few years before NASA was founded, and six years before Ham went into space. Talk about futuristic.
