Prayers to the Sun God
Created | Updated Apr 3, 2014
bestows a strange serene beauty-
silver tints on brown floodwater.
People lean from first-floor windows,
pray the Sun God restores life
to a world soaked and strewn by chaos.
Trees salute heaven with broken branches,
invoke the sun’s power to revive
bedraggled leaves and weakened roots.
Drowned landscapes start to stir,
cast off blankets of turgid water,
litter of wrecked cars and shattered lives.
Tired firemen rise from pumps,
to bless returning sunshine, watch
familiar streets emerge from darkness.
