I'm pretty sure the last time I had any kind of 'cobbler' (probably beef cobbler I think), was made by my Mum... so, that must have been a very* long while ago smiley - weird Pretty sure it wasn't made with cheese though, in the 'cobblers', just flour and err wahtever else goes into them smiley - weird and I do recall them being a bit llike scones.... asdies anything pretty sure they'd be cut out, using a scone-cutter type thing smiley - weirdsmiley - drool

damnit... now I want cobblers or dummplings for dinner! and I've already got stuff in, that I must use, so should* have the new potatos, colliflower and one of my stews from the freezer, no dumplings smiley - wah no cobblers smiley - wah unless.... smiley - run

Apart from my dislike of the repetition of "waistline", which is perhaps just my problem smiley - sadface I think my only query now is about the defrosting - how long do you need to wait for them to defrost before putting them in the oven?

damnit!; your going to make me have to make them again, nwo, so I can find out about the defrosting times! smiley - laugh : I guess they'll take less than my multigrain rolls to defrost... and the multigrain rolls take not much more than an hour, in ambient (not overly warm in here), temp to defrost just sitting out on the bread board in the kitchen smiley - zen I'd guess maybe an hour therefore smiley - zen

Oh... go - on... can I leave the multiple mentions of 'waistline' in... its all a bit tongue in cheek, or at least that was how it was intended to come across smiley - blushsmiley - biro err. actually I probably oughta go back and read it again myself as I've not looked at the entry in weeks smiley - blushsmiley - doh

I had enjoyed this PR thread so much, I'd forgotten I hadn't read the entry yet.

It's absolutely fine (the entry) and I think I'll try them (the scones) out - even if I put them on top of a casserole.

One thing: Do you "quaff" food? I thought that only applied to drinks?

I learnt this week that adverbs should be redundant in good writing - you just have to use the right verb. A verb like "quaff" (provided it applies here) certainly doesn't need sullying with an adverb.

Ah smiley - ok I was thinking they would have to defrost overnight or something like that, so "about an hour" is very helpful information.

I'm not the best judge of the tongue-in-cheekness of the first paragraphs, sorry (I'm a "recovering anorexic", so some things get to me more than they perhaps should even though I'm not too bad these days...). No worries, though - I can avert my eyes smiley - blush

I also did a bit of maths; tryign to use 'average' calories, in milk, egg, S/R flour, cheddar, etc, and worked out the rough calory content of each scone, which I put in the entry smiley - zen Not quite* as terrible as perhaps I thought smiley - laughsmiley - snork damnit... didn't inlcude teh parmazan though... but that is a bit variable depending how much (if any) one puts on smiley - blush

I may try remove the second 'waistline', it grated on me a bit, ahving the word twice, when I read it through a few times, whilst adding in the links... so perhaps it'd be butter without it smiley - winkeyesmiley - snork

but. smiley - bigeyes on working out the calorys thing... Butter?!!!???? smiley - wow I knew it wasn't exactly a 'diet' food-sort... but... blimey... one and half or more times the calories of cheddar, per 100 G smiley - yikes Hmmm. Think I've just discovered a simple way I can drop about 3 LB per week, by only altering one aspect of my average weekly nutritional intake smiley - laughsmiley - blushsmiley - diva (It'll so* annoy my Brother if I can drop even more off my waist... and just think... if* I could ever get to a 28 inch waist... and then* wore the corset, and sinched, say four inchs off smiley - wowsmiley - divasmiley - snorksmiley - snorksmiley - snorksmiley - snork ) smiley - blush

I get through an aweful lot of butter! smiley - laugh on toast... in with my kielbasa/mushrooms/pierogi etc., etc.... and lots and lots in with goose, duck, or hens eggs if scrambled or omeletted smiley - laughsmiley - blush

The calorys for the individual ingredients, were kinda estimated; so I took the calories for milk, for example, half way between semi skimmed and whole fat milk, and for cheddar, I found an 'average' one, then looked at a couple of UK branded mature cheddars, and sort of split the differnce; with the flour, went half way betwen a weel known brand, an 'average' (unnamed brand), and also a supermarket brand one smiley - laugh the consequent adding up, then dividing by the 12, gave a precise number, taken from the average/estimated calorys of the individual ingredients, at their measurments as given in the recipe... smiley - erm if that makes sense... I may work out the calories agin... I didn't sleep last night, and am currently just awake on the affects of the litre of coffee I've drunk so far smiley - sleepysmiley - coffeesmiley - zzz

Hmmm... did a bit mor research as regards calories... 230 calories, or higher, may be more accurate smiley - cry I'll try to do a proper working it, out, again, later, several tiems; once for 'generic ingredients', and once for 'branded ones (like the ones I might use; alisons flour, or homepride, cathedril city mature cheddar, or pilgrims choice, etc...) then see what the differnce is between the two, and figur eout soemthing accordingly smiley - zen

Irritatingly, it's not Dos 6.22 any more, but even on my supposedly much more powerful computer the game is some sort of Flash that gets slower, and slowwwer, every line I type... It's taken me days to get this far... Not to mention that I saved the game but something went wrong so I had to redo a whole section smiley - erm

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

We* tried this recipe a few weeks ago and then I promptly forgot to come here and comment smiley - facepalm

I didn't get chance to freeze any, even though we used silicon cupcake moulds. It actually made 18 in total, but *may* have used slightly more cheese. smiley - blush

They were indeed, very, very moreish, and there were five of us the day we made them.

*I say 'we' - my son actually followed the recipe and made them. I just made sure he didn't make too much mess smiley - winkeye

they can be a bit messy, when making, as the 'dough', or err, whatever you'd call it, is quite wet, when you spoon it into the tins/moulds smiley - zen err.... should I bother working out the calory count thing, again, or just leave the entry without that in? is there anything else I was meant to be doing/changing with it? smiley - zen err, I'll go read it though....
