DICK SHEPPARD ON LOVE
Created | Updated Oct 5, 2012
Dick Sheppard had a simple creed.
He said: Love is the only weapon that we need.
It's the greatest thing that Life can give
It should be the light by which we live.
It's never quick or harsh to judge
And the heart of the matter
Is that we're made for Love.
Love would take no rigid stance.
It would lead not drive when it gets the chance.
It knows when to speak and when to be
Firm but calm in controversy.
It gives and gets in joy and laughter
And, in the words of a master,
We're all made for Love.
Love would rather act than hear big talk
And rather than 'Lover's Leaps'
Love takes a "Long Walk".
Love believes in people so
They're never thought 'hopeless' or just 'too low'.
Looking ahead Love may see
What's to come before it comes to be.
Creatively its best work is done
In quietness and fun
Because we're made for Love.
Love sees virtue in the strangest place
And grandeur in the most simple face.
It runs to give just like the Dad
To the 'Prodigal Child' he once had had.
It knows no barrier of rank or class,
Creed or colour, that's crass.
Because we're made for Love.
Love cares nothing for its own plight
It knows that darkness must flee before the light.
Love is strong in courtesy
It respects all homes whatever they may be
It's anger is kept for another's hurt
When a soul mind or body is down in the dirt.
It seeks to win but it hates to wound
It listens to all, cause its assumed
We're all made for Love.
And that's Dick Sheppard on Love.
