Corrupt - the mage, the myth, the abilities list!
Created | Updated Jul 13, 2011
As it's been a while, and I seem to be adventuring with people who aren't entirely used to this nutty villainess of mine, here's a general cheat-sheet to Corrupt's powers and how they play out. I may or may not go into more detail in future...
Abilities
Sorceress of Flame
Corrupt is, first and foremost, a sorceress roughly of the D&D persuasion: that is, her magic is innate but honed and refined through practice. Given that her own resources are vast and she's had plenty of opportunity for practice, any spell she manages to cast is highly effective and difficult to counter.
- Fire Magic: Nearly all the time, if Corrupt casts magic, it will be fire in some form or other. A vast majority of the time, it is the simple but effective fireball, though a rain of fire is not unheard of and can be devastating in a confined area. Arguably her most powerful skill in this category is an immunity to fire, gained from constant practice and practical need (though it isn't exactly a spell as such).
- Elemental Magic: On those rare occasions where fire is not exactly what the angry sorceress ordered, she may instead conjure a localized storm. Minor lightning and wind spells have been witnessed before.
- Utility Magic: While an occasional healing or shield spell isn't unheard of, it seems to be rare for Corrupt to use magic for anything other than outright assault. Whether that's a power weakness or simply due to her inherent flaws remains to be seen.
Seeker of Artifacts
As owner of Corrupt's Intergalactic Artifacts, some of her effective abilities come from her unending search for interesting and useful doodads. Some of note:
- Corrupt's Staff: Despite the fact that her and her staff are rarely parted, not much is known about it. It is made of some sort of heavy, durable metal and has a large glowing crystal atop it as a focus. It is also collapsible, at least by magical means. Theoretically it is used to augment her magical powers, but more often it seems to be employed as a handy melee weapon.
- Dragon Whistles: They have appeared in various adventures. Some of them summon actual living, breathing dragons, and at least one is the control element to a magical clockwork dragon. Some dragons are more reliable than others.
- Key to the Shop: A simple key on a chain, usually worn by their owners, that can transport that person and any touching them to her shop, then back to where they first activated the key (if they choose to return). It makes a "k'pwing!" sound on use. They are very rare: only Corrupt, Kudos, Kalia, and NYC Student are known to own one.
Inherent Flaws
Every villain has to have a set of obligatory flaws that keeps them from actually accomplishing anything evil of note; Corrupt's are simple, but highly effective. Most of the time she's simply too lazy to bother using her vast array of abilities; she also gets distracted easily by shiny or interesting things. Motivating her can be almost as bad, as she is incredibly hotheaded and prone to bouts of rage that endanger everyone around her, friend and foe alike.
