There are points in any conversation (especially when it turns to cultural or historical matters) which are ripe for revealing a speaker's lack of knowledge. Would you, for instance, when discussing the works of the German poet, novelist, playwright, courtier, and natural philosopher call Goethe, Goe-eth, Gurt-er or something else? And if your conversational partner pronouced his name wrongly, what would you do? Tell them outright or just pronounce it in the correct manner lots of times until they get it?
So, in order to help my fellow researchers avoid these pitfalls in social intercourse, I thought I'd put together a short 'dictionary of mispronounced words'. And obviously I need your help...
