There are, if you sat down to count them, very few destructive forces in the Universe. Hatred, obviously, is one. Most of the others are, in fact, a single force disguised under a multitude of names. In the sciences, it is called entropy. In human beings, it is called boredom. In a small box in your living room, it is called television. These are all one, the slow winding down of the springs of Existence. Some scientists have postulated that the Universe will end with a Big Crunch, or other such wide-screen cataclysm. In truth, we know, from too many hours with too little stimulation, that it shall end in a sort of aggrieved sigh as all Creation, bored to tears, gives up the ghost.
Fighting boredom is surprisingly easy. We live in a Universe full of exciting absurdity. Turn off the box, stick your head out the window and grasp the world by the horns. Entropy is the enemy, and it is everywhere.
