identity cards

ID Cards? Great idea! But it doesn’t go far enough. Why not make everyone wear ankle bracelets so that our whereabouts are known at all times? It should even be possible to install transmitters subcutaenously, making them more difficult to remove.
The GPS system allows a signal to be pinpointed to within a few metres, so that if you are somewhere you are not supposed to be, the authorities will know. It could easily be used retrospectively, to prove or disprove alibis. The cost could be offset by selling information to interested parties, for instance your boss, who can check that you really are at home in bed when you call in sick.

Am I serious about this, or am I being sarcastic? You decide. But don’t think it couldn’t happen.
