Duffel Coats
Created | Updated Dec 6, 2002
The key to a good duffel coat is as follows:
*Deep pockets for burying hands into.
*The length to go to about the 'wearers' knees, or just above.
*A hood.
*Smokey, charred smell after being rained on.
Duffel coats can be purchased from most places, however the amount of money exchanged follows a trend that the more money you spend, the lower quality of duffel coat you will be receiving. This is due to the best duffel coats coming from circa 1940-1970. For this reason it is advisable to shop for a duffel coat in charity shops, other second-hand clothes shops or 70's clothes shops.
Researchers' Note ~ I bought my duffel coat for £35 from 'The Wardrobe' in Leicester. Bearing in mind I am 6ft 7inches, this was an extremely good buy, as it actually goes down to my knees!
Recommended colours are black, dark navy blue or hazel brown. White duffel coats are not recommended.
Why are you even still thinking of buying that coat from Topshop or Burtons?
If you would like an extremely good value, hard-wearing, fashionable and cheap coat that you'll never grow out of, and possibly end up watching the weather every morning just so you can have an excuse to wear it again, then take heed of advise and buy a duffel coat!
