The Red Shoes

A Grim tale of amputations .
A Girl makes herself a pair of natty red shoes from scraps.
Her mother stunned by the psychological implications, dies .
At the funeral a carriage containing an old woman arrives and gives girl new life of luxury, for no reason other than this is a myth.
In return, the girl must give up her red shoes and sit nicely with her legs crossed and back straight and say thank you and pardon me.
In a store she sees a pair of hand crafted Red Shoes by Nike.
She wears the shoes to church, where a soldier, with one arm and a crutch, points at the shoes which begin to dance.
The girl can’t stop dancing.
She dances on and on with the congregation saying “we told you so” in quite a smug manner.
Days pass, she’s exhausted.
She dances into a clearing in the woods.
And asks the convenient wood cutter to chop off her feet.
Which he , having obviously been asked to do this deed on several occasions , does.
The moral ? Just because designer labels look like something you made yourself you can still end up with bleeding feet!
