With any luck as this has been through PR before there shouldn't be too long a wait before it gets recommended.
anyone?

I don't drink anymore..but I shall take one from you Mr. D.
I'm pretty fed up with some here..and can't fit in.
But you Mr. D are still right up there for me.
I'd like to think about doing a Guide entry to do with my project of turning my garden into a microcosm of the English countryside.
Thing is, it was very much a lot of first person stuff as well as learning about principles of traditional English wild flower meadows, hedgrows and ponds...and my knowledge as a biology grad.
It was a mixture. If I would use first person there would be a *reason* for that. Like a journey of personal discovery mixed up with information gathered. And hopefully inspire others.
That is what I'd like to do next here....and keep right out of the politics I realised.

Do you have any photos or sketches of the larvae that we could use, Effers? Or ones that might inspire the Community Artists to draw something?
We have a picture of the Gave de Gavarnie on the French Pyrenees entry A1920539 but I'd like something more relevant than that.

"Thing is, it was very much a lot of first person stuff as well as learning about principles of traditional English wild flower meadows, hedgrows and ponds...and my knowledge as a biology grad."
There's some great first-person stuff in the guide (I think on an article about depression?) so there's a precedent. I never agreed with the third person only style "rule" of the Guide. It's a bit too wiki for me.
Sounds genuinely interesting. I'm about to move somewhere with a garden for the first time in my adult life, so I'd definitely like a read of that.

An Entry about your garden would be , Effers, and I think such a thing would be fine in first person as it's a personal thing rather than a generalised factual wossname.

Yes Gnomon I have a variety of proper detailed biological drawings of the caddis larva I did for my final year project.
Also some diagramatic sketches I made of the site.
I can email those if you tell me where.

Cool I really want to do something to do with my garden. I've been working on that project for 18 months now.

Nice entry
As far as I understand from this thread the Caddis is the case that the larvae live in? I'm not sure that the entry makes this really clear.
(is the word related to things like the box we put tea in, a caddy?)
It would be great to get this on the FP with a nice diagram. I have a lovely mental picture of them waving their legs in the water.

Yes, the term 'caddis'does refer to its cylindrical case:
New Collegiate Dictionary. 2001.
AFAIK, it has no connection with 'tea caddy' which is derived from the Malay 'kati' meaning 'a weight of about 1lb'.

I think going into detail about the derivation of 'caddis' might be confusing. But if anyone wants to edit that in, go ahead.
I'll send drawings when that's explained where to.
I found my old original project book for the final year research project.
They look so old fashioned. And I remember the hours and hours I spent drawing and re-drawing them..staring down that dissecting microscope.
***
But I'd already spent years from the age of 9 staring down microscopes..so I was used to that.
I really ought to buy one now to relive that phase of life.
Getting a microscope and a chemistry set for the same Christmas..was quite incredible.

Just had a re-read of it..and noticed it says I edited it, and kea wrote and researched it.
Why does it say that?
It's totally back to front.

I had to amend it that way - so you have editing rights Effers - if it had been the other way, you would not have been able to submit it here, and alter any of the text.
When it goes to the next step a sub-ed will appear where your name is and you ( and kea if she chooses ) will be both credited, jointly.
After that, once it is 'Published' it will say Edited Entry at the top ( in Brunel ) and nobody apart from the h2g2 Guide Editors, or the Curators will be able to alter it in any way whatsoever.
The bit where it says 'Edited by:' purely indicated who has control of the piece now. In this case, you do.
I hope this explains it?

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
