Yarm : Illuminating the otherwise murky Tees
Created | Updated Aug 14, 2002
It is well-served commercially as there are plenty of shops and amenities, and commerce would seem to nestle very well within its busom. Take a stroll into town - Yarm's High Street is a mix of history and modernity, and somehow it works well. It bears qualities reminiscent of a minature-York at its centre, and its inhabitants are similarly well-mannered.
Not sharing the same backdrop of grime and despair, the locals live well in contrast to the rest of the Teesside area, as though they were the Greek Gods themselves. It is said that in Yarm they don't use water, but that wine doth flow freely from the taps. It is said that in Yarm each droplet of rain turns everything it touches into gold. Although scientists identified Ozone and other protective gases in our atmosphere many years ago, they have yet to identify the substance which protects Yarm from being invaded by the murky fear, violence and despair which characterises much of Teesside.
Yarm has an international cache, for its hotel, Tall Trees ( http://www.talltrees.co.uk ), is a huge structure, well-furnished and also boasts a club, Club M. ( http://www.clubm.co.uk/ ) It is stage to many acts; Sasha, Judge Jules, Sonique and Paul Taylor are just some names to have trod the floorboards at this lavish venue. The hotel itself is well-situated near Teesside Airport.
