Overview
The term "Drama School" is used to cover the number of teaching establishments that teach drama to a degree level (Be it acting, or musical or technical theatre). Degrees awarded include Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts.
Conference of Drama Schools
The Conference of Drama Schools, or CDS for short is a collection of twenty-two of the United Kingdom's leading drama teaching establishments.
CDS also covers a number of other courses in areas such as musical theatre, dramaturgy and stage management amongst others.
BA Acting
The course is three years in length. The first two years are training years where students learn their actingtechnique and undertake in extra modules in stage craft such as stage combat and dance, whilst the third year is mainly focused on putting students into the public eye and trying to find agents to represent them in the industry. Most schools have a showcase where students present monologues and duologues to invited agents as well as performing in several in-house productions during the three terms.
