Germans - A strange Breed
Created | Updated May 1, 2005
I consider my self to be a very tollerant and accepting person having no problem intermingling with fellow humans as well as animals, but my self and my boyfriend seem to have encountered a significant problem when communicating with the Germans.
Example Num. 1: When entering a bar or restaurant most of the human population locate a table that feels comfortable for them within an time span of 30 seconds to 1 minute. The Germans do not seem to be able to make that decision without discussion and calculation. This seems to take an average of 5 minutes.
Num 2: When seated in an establishment and presended with a menu, then come the inevitable problem of choosing a beverage. It would be fair to say that most English speaking nations tend to know as soon as they enter their chosen watering hole, what their chosen tipple will be, but if there are more than 2 (possibly 3 in more cosmopolitain cities) choices, a consideration period of 10 minutes is required to decide upon a pint of larger and a cola.
Num 3: They always require table service even when only 1 meter from the bar.
Num 4: They 9 times out of 10 walk up to the bar to order a beer and ask, with the beer taps on full view, what sorts of beer do you have?
The general overal feeling that I have picked up is that they do not seem to be able to think as individuals. And dare i say it that this may be a throw back from the war years. They all say that they do not speak English when 90% of them clearly do. And the young people, even in Hamburg, do not dare drink more than 1 bottle of alcho pops in their whole evening for fear of letting them selves go!!!!!!
Key Words: Robots, suppression, oppression, fear, boreing!!!!
I do appologise to all the Germans reading this that are not included in this description. The ones of you who are now sitting at your computers with waving arms and cries of racist racist are exactly the people i am describing in this piece.
Now don't even get me started on the English!!!!
Yours truthfully

UPDATE: I lasted 3 1/2 years in Germany and learned to accept the litte wierdnesses of the G's. They are strange, but in their own way lovable. The are not effecient, they are cold and they are stern, but they have hearts of gold, are very accepting (bar a small faschist minority) and i would live there again, given the chance.
If you are thinking of visiting Hamburg, do. The Reeperbahn is a massive community - it's relativly safe, if you keep your wits about you and well worth a visit. Who know's you might ent up staying.
