Date Spread for bread.
Created | Updated Jul 8, 2002
taken from an old recipe known as "Datie Breedie" from the Scots for Date Bread.
<star>Ingredients<star>
1 pack of dates
1 tablespoon of butter
1 tablespoon of soft brown sugar
<star>Method<star>
Stone dates (if this has not already been done), and chop dates roughly.
Place the dates in a heavy bottomed pot or in an oven-proof
dish.
Add the sugar and butter, and add a splash of cold water. Mix ingredients together.
Place the dish in a pre-heated oven at a low temperature or on a low heat on the hob. Do not cover. Cook for around two hours or until the mixture is thick and has reduced down to a sticky substance.
Remove from the heat and allow to cool slightly or you may prefer to chill it in the fridge overnight.
