Screams in Rock music

Rock music, a rather popular genre started in the early 50's, has gone through many stages, but one thing that has been a part of it for quite a while, is the Scream. I don't mean a scream, but rather, The Scream. Not just any old scream, like found in recent music, where the "singers" just yell into the microphone and call it singing. We're talking an actual, true to life scream. not to be used too often, though.

All too much in newer music, the scream is over done. They Seem to think it's all they have to do, when in reality, that makes it a bit of a novelty. A true scream will only be used on occasion, and only at the most important times.

The three best examples of The Scream would be the Scream in Pink Floyd's "Careful With That Axe, Eugene", the series of screams at the end of John Lennon's "Cold Turkey", and finally, the scream during The Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again".

Granted, in Heavy Metal, The Scream can be used a bit more, but still, must be used in moderation. It's much too easy to overuse, and as a general guideline, if you think you might be taking it too far, you should probably back off a bit. As long as you've got the musical talent to back it up, a little less Scream could be a good thing.
