Where the hell is Ilmenau?
Ilmenau is a small city situated about 30km south of Erfurt, Thuringia. The city itself is in the midst of the "Thuringia Forest", a very nice landscape with lots of trees and hills.
Having about 32.000 inhabitants, of which 7000 are students, Ilmenau is a nice student town.
The University
High grades in magazine tests in the past, more and more students got to study here. Auditoriums are very full at the moment, but, as a new one is built now, this will change soon.
Beeing a technical university, there are only 20% girls here, so be aware of that!
The Campus
Nearly all of the buildings are situated on the "Campus", which makes ways between lectures short. As there are only about 7000 students, you see known faces very often!
Dormitories are also situated on campus, and connected by LAN, so don't waste too much time on playing Multiplayer Games *g*(CounterStrike is very popular here).
Below of 4 dormitories, there are "Student Clubs". This is a specialty of the former DDR, and if you want to meet people, party, or just get a good beer, you're right here.
Called after the names of the dormitories, the BC,BD,BH,BI clubs all have a different style and different events.
Altogether
a nice place to waste five years for your diploma!
The most important things to do when starting your life here
- Visit the cafeteria...and get used to the food there :-)
- Check out the student club locations
- Get a copy card
- Get your login at the computer center
- Buy some rainwear...you will need it here (some say, it only rains horizontal here :-)
