I think there's a mistake in the "handled the ball" section - I'm sure Michael Vaughan was given out once 'handled the ball' after picking up the ball to give it to a fielder - in India in 2001.

No mention of 'obstructing the field' there at all - in fact it says that the applicable Law is 33.1.

I think 'obstructing the field' is relatively rare in Test cricket or ODIs (the only example I can find for Test matches is Len Hutton at The Oval against South Africa in 1951).

The page you refer to says :

'This time the ball struck his pad, went up in the air through a tangle of gloves, bat and arms, came down onto his thigh and, as it landed in front of him, the batsman trapped it with his glove before tossing it away.'

So he deliberately touched the ball with his hand, and was therefore rightly given out Handled ball - it doesn't say he passed it back to the fielders. The only reference I make to the fielders is if the batsman passes the ball back to them, which is obstructing the field.

I think I also qualify that being out Obstructing the field is rare by saying 'Batsmen cannot deliberately get in the way of the fielding side, though in reality this can be hard to prove.'

If either of these points remain unclear, though, I'll go back and make them clearer if you wish

Interesting point about Inzy, B; but as England were batting at the time Collingwood and Bell were both left not out. Presumably if the batting team refused to take the field, they would be listed as out Retired; they have effectively left the field without consulting with the umpires at the time the match ends.

This is looking good; any more comments re: Skankyrich's last post (see above)?
