Kirkcaldy

1 Conversation

Kirkcaldy or the "langtoun" has given birth to a few famous sons, including: Jockey Wilson, the chancellor Gordon Brown and the founder of modern capitalism-Adam Smith.

Kirkcaldy is also famous for the manufacture of linolium, by the Nairn family. This lead to Kirkcaldy being known for its "queer-like smell" as immortalised by the poem "The boy on the train" by Mary Campbell Smith. The smell has left Kirkcaldy now but the Nairn linolium factory still exists, albeit with a new smell free process.

The towns football club is Raith rovers, which once lead to the exclamation of "They'll be dancing on the streets of Raith tonight!" by a confused BBC reporter after the Rovers acheived promotion.

About the only other noteable thing about Kirkcaldy is the "links market" which takes place along the prom in April every year. The market is rumoured to be the longest street fair in Europe.
