Tourist Watching in Cooperstown, NY
Created | Updated Apr 9, 2002
First things first, find one of the three trolley/buses that go through the village and purchase a ticket, which will be approximately 2 dollars and is good for all trolleys for the entire day. Get on one and ride until you're sick of it or return to your original stop, being sure to laugh at the conversations of the true tourists, who will either be commenting on the attractions or laughing at the Cooperstown natives.
After the trolley loses its appeal, hang out at the Hall of Fame entrance. To save money, you needn't actually go in. The fun here is watching people come out stocked up with gift shop memorabilia.
Once you've had your fill of the Hall of Fame, just wander around in town for a few hours. If you are female and either reasonably young or attractive, expect to be hit on by the hordes of preadolescent boys who visit. When there's a baseball camp going on, which is virtually all summer, the numbers of young males rise exponentially, and they all try to impress each other with their lady-meeting skills.
If you've exhausted the possibilities in town, go to the Cooperstown Fun Park a few miles away, which is a small park with miniature golf and a drivin range and batting cages and such. This is prime preadolescent boy ground, and offers one of the best opportunities to watch them interacting with the rest of the public. Not only that, but you can watch family members of all ages trying to have fun after a harrying day of dragging loved ones to see the sights.
