Jim Lynn

She mostly dislikes it because it features Nicholas Cage, who she can't stand. Which I can understand.

Maybe in a few decades, we'll be able to edit and digitally re-cast movies. Put Bogart in the part of "Hi" from Raising Arizona, for example. Okay, that would be too weird, but if you could re-cast it with an actor that your wife liked, then she might enjoy the rest of the movie.

Love the entry smiley - cheers. Stick it on the front page!

On the "sounds" front in the conclusion. The soundtrack won best album at the Grammys very recently. Not best soundtrack, but best *album*, which is quite an achievement in itself smiley - smiley. Here's a BBC News story about it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/entertainment/music/newsid_1845000/1845962.stm

That's all I think,

Hell - Ta. Best not to read the other posts, they only point out errors in the article smiley - winkeye

Jim - Reed Birney starred in Crimewave. But he looks JUST LIKE Bruce Campbell, I swear!

I tried to be more complimentary about Raising Arizona (and I know it's just an opinion and shouldn't really be there), but I just can't. There's a 'possibly' in the sentence, so technically it's factual, that's the best I can do. Sorry. If it becomes a big thing, I'll take the sentence out.

But Humphrey Bogart? Goofing round, looking dopey? I can't see it somehow!

Otherwise, changes made, Grammy briefly alluded to.

After reading this article, I've been reviewing some of the films that I have on tape. You don't need to add this in-joke to the entry, but could you explain the Dr. Strangelove O.P.E./P.O.E. allusion for my benefit? I noticed it written on the door of the restroom where the escaped prisoners run pomade through their hair, but could you explain what it meant in Dr. Strangelove?

In short: OPE/POE stands for Purity of Essence or Peace on Earth. It's the recall code for the bombers. (General Ripper is obsessed with Commies poisoning his bodily fluids, hence Purity of Essence.) It's scrawled all over his bathroom or something, which lets the RAF officer work it out. No-one listens to him and everyone dies. The end.

Actually they do listen to him, and all the bombers are recalled, except for Slim Pickens' plane where the radio's bust. Then everyone dies. The end.

And I think it was scribbled all over his notepad / jotter thing...

I am trying to get out more, honest.

Excellent Entry! smiley - ok

One sentence in the 'Barton Fink' section puzzled me: "The ‘dailies’ Fink is shown to demonstrate the wrestling movie consist of the same shot repeated time and again."

I always thought 'the dailies' meant newspapers. What does it mean in this context?

P - Oh yeah, I remember. I always preferred 'Fail-Safe'.

O - They are referred to as such in the film. To be honest, I'm not sure what they actually are, I assume the results of each day's filming. New footnote coming right up once I've looked it up.

Hey Giford!

Brilliant entry and the editors agreed and are including it into the Edited Guide! smiley - cheers

This means that a copy of your entry will be made and sent out to a subeditor for polish and a quick grammar check. Once the sub is done with it, he will return it to the h2g2 Towers for a final review and then it will join the queue for the front page.

Unless it is chosen to receive a piece of artwork - if that happens it'll join a queue for the art team and then rejoin the front page queue.

But no matter what...
...you've cleared the first hurdle and you're now in the process.

Congratulations!
