Mostly they are yes, I'll admit that much. Then again, for the most part it's the people that choose which song represents their country each year. If you don't vote then the chances are that the "wrong" song gets picked. There are some exceptions to the rule, for instance the French television usually chooses the song itself without asking anyone. And there's nothing wrong with music that you can dance to!

like all competions I only watch when country is in it or if extreemely bored

I watch and tape it every year, even when we're not in it. I have all the contests on tape since 1991, and most of the preview shows too. Except for 1993 when my VCR broke down.
What can I say? I'm a fan(atic).
