The Siege of Paris?

I don't know anything about the Siege of Paris, just that it happened and (as with most sieges) that they ate rats! 
I'd love to hear more about it - I don't even know who the protagonists were!
Ooh, another thought: what about the Exposition of 1898 that featured the Eiffel Tower? That's gotta be worth a paragraph or two?
