The Perception of Depth

Depth is an important part of our visual perception of the world. Our sense of depth gives us the ability to reach out and pick up a cup, to throw a ball and to drive a car. More importantly, our sense of depth contributes to our brain's ability to percieve objects as complete wholes and not just random lines*. For these reasons, depth has been an important area of research for cognitive and biological psychologists and AI researchers hoping to replicate or emulate the visual processing systems of the human mind.
