Tamm's Chinese Take-away, Warrington, England
Created | Updated Feb 10, 2006
Introduction
Tamm's is easy to miss. For one thing, you have to be in England, preferably in the Northwest, and have access to Warrington Centre.
Tamm's isn't big, or famous. Heck, it's not even a restaurant! Tamm's is a stall in a market, where you can buy delicious chinese food for a reasonable price.
In our fast-paced society of Burger King and MacDonalds, of super-markets and online shopping, it is all to easy to overlook the humble places that we grew up with; the corner shops, the newsagent, the simple town markets... it is for these places, and the nostalgic memories they bring us, that I write this guide.
Location, and how to get there
Tamm's is located in the Warrington Market. If you know the place, you should be able to find it without too much difficulty, but here is how to get there from the multistory Golden Gate car-park, and the nearby Bus Terminal:
First, cross the pedestrian bridge into Golden Gate. You will find yourself opposite a newsagents. Turn left, and follow the corridor out through the doors. There will be a clothes store on your right. Turn right, and wander through Golden Gate until you are outside.
You will see a covered-over passage more or less straight ahead of you (you might have to walk past the hot-dog and burger vender to see it). Walk through, and turn right at the fountain, heading down past the fast food stores (they are on your right).
As you head down, there will be an alley to your left. Go down it, and you'll see Warrington Market. Do not go through the door infront of you. Instead, go left along the outside of the Market. When you come to the door, go in. Tamm's is one of the stalls on the left hand side.
Alternatively, for those who fancy a take-away after a rewarding game of Laserquest (or, like me, don't want to pay to park...), then here's how to get there from Evan's House:
Follow the main road, crossing over and walking towards the roundabout. Turn left, and head for KFC (you may, at your discretion, wish to include my traditional "stopping for a breather" at this point, and buy a large Popcorn Chicken for £2.99). Follow the road down past all the food places, past the railway station, and down to the pub. Cross the road, and head up to the fountain. You can use the directions above from there.
What should I order?
That's up to you, there's plenty on offer. I myself love their chicken curry with fried rice... so much so that I make it a tradition to buy the stuff!
How much is it?
That depends... Tamm's have been forced to up their prices twice since I started going there. However, it's still reasonably priced, and well worth it!
So next time you're in Warrington, be sure to stop in.
