mosquitoes

As I write this, my attention is divided between typing and trying to catch mosquitoes. They are one of the few creatures that I have no remorse about killing. After all, they started it. Anyway, the best way I find to stop them bothering me at night is to have my fan next to my bed, aimed just above me. This does two things: it makes it difficult for the critters to fly in the turbulent air; and it makes it difficult for them to find me because they find their prey by feeling their body heat, and the fan blows the heat away. Also the noise of the fan drowns the whine of the mosquito as it circles slowly up by the ceiling, waiting for the right moment to attack. Then you lie awake waiting for it to come for you, or wondering if you are actually just imagining the sound.
