The Palace of Westminster, better known perhaps as the Houses of Parliament, is probably one of the most instantly recognised seats of Government in the World. Perched gracefully beside the River Thames, this famous complex of buildings has a long and distinguished history as a Royal Palace and seat of Government which belies Westminster's inauspicious beginnings as a watery swamp.
