A Conversation for The h2g2 Doctor Who Group
Would it work
The Researcher has Retired Started conversation Jul 5, 2005
Ever since the start of the new Doctor Who series, there have been many postings on POV which somehow meander around the theme of Doctor Who. FOr a while Doctor Who, even had its own secion on POV because there were many people posting on the subject. If you go over there, you will discover that many of the threads would meander through quite a number of different themes, and would include a number of regulars, as well as a number of people who would just drop in to say hello and how much they liked, or otherwise the series.
We would chat about things Whovian in a serious way, or in a very light hearted way, perhaps reflecting a degree of ease with which we treated these things; neither too seriously, not so lightly as to show a lack of respect.
People are, again asking for the Whovians to move. Some have said that they should all move here. What do you think?

So long as the h2g2 House Rules are observed, we'd have no problems with people posting here.
We're currently trying to compile entries on all manner of Doctor Who subjects for the h2g2 Edited Guide, so the more the merrier.
Just bear in mind that the POV board membership is different to h2g2 membership, so there may be some things that h2g2 members can do that you can't, but if you're happy just talking about Doctor Who that shouldn't be a problem.

Many of us are a bit frustrated, however. I, personally, would like to see it work; so, I am trying it out. I am not sure of how it will work out. Not knowing the "character" of this board, I wonder how the two groups would mix. I don't know if any of you have been over to POV, and if you visited the Doctor Who section that existed until June 24th. It seems to have had a very different character from this one.
Visit http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbpointsofview/F2131438 and see what you think. Some of the threads are pretty mundane, others fun and surreal, others very serious on the Doctor Who theme. perhaps one of the reasons that it is so different is that it has more visitors who are not serious Whovians
The mechanics of h2g2 are very different. The way threads are structured is different. So it will take getting used to.

Strange - I've been weaned on h2g2 and I find other boards hard work and I end up giving up.
Here you have your own home page (Personal Space) and a list of your conversations, and a place to write journals (BLOGs).
There's always someone around to ask a question of, if you need a hand (usually have an ACE badge on their PS) and so much to read it would take the rest of your life to get through
Been here 5 years now and I ain't going nowhere else

We had these smileys on POV for a while, but they took them away from us. It made quite a few of out posts look silly. And the smileys that we did get were quite strange.
There is a reluctance to move, in part because we are all used to being there, we know each other, and we like it even when people are not so positive about things Whovian. We built up friendships, talked about the kids, and food, even exchanged recipes. So I suppose POV had become a home for us.
As a sort of afterthought here is a haiku for the Doctor:
I'm a wanderer
Time and space I've made my home.
Oh Gallifrey is gone!
I like haiku as an art form, and take it more seriously because my wife is Japanese. I have written a few Dalek Haiku on POV. Maybe if I can find them, I'll move them here, and we can make a Haiku section. I felt that the sadness of the first episodes was well suited to the haiku form and I made one about the Tears of Rassilon that I cannot find anymore which is upseting because I really liked it.

I should just say that Messageboards accounts don't give members the same kind of Personal Space as full Communities like h2g2, so it might be a little misleading to promise Personal Spaces. I seem to recall Messageboard Personal Spaces don't have a message centre.

We're a friendly welcoming bunch here on h2g2 and the friendships you have formed will be able to continue here as well as being able to make new friends with the people here.

I found some DALEK haiku from TsuKaRoo*. The author claims to be DaBuRooSu*. It appears that he did write some tanka but they have yet to be found. They are a bit morbid, perhaps reflecting the Dalek character. Perhaps one of them refers to a time when DabuRooSu met the Doctor.
A flying dalek
crushes a Time Lord's bones
in a bare Skaran field
Light winter rain
like scampering rat's-feet
over my plunger.
This cold winter night,
that old wooden-head Doctor
would make a nice fire.
A lightning flash--
a thud as body drops
EXTERMINATED!!!
The warbler sings
amongst new shoots of bamboo.
ETERMINATE IT!!!
* TsuKaRoo and DabuRooSu are Romanised Japanese representations of Skaro and Davros. The oo should be taken as a long o as in oh and not as in spoon.
